Federico Salas-Lucia is a translational biologist working in the thyroid field. His PhD thesis on breastfeeding clarified how critical it is for thyroid hormone-dependent brain myelination and cortical angiogenesis. He also held an internship to study how iodotyrosine dehalogenase 1 influences the hormone economy. His present workplace is at the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. Currently, he is working at the laboratory of Samuel Refetoff on treating MCT8 deficiency using a cortical organoid model and at the laboratory of Antonio Bianco on the cellular pathways leading to the T3 signaling in neurons.
